It was birthday celebrations all round as this Society celebrated their 50th Anniversary with this one-off stage show. It took the form of a musical tribute from all the shows performed by the Society over the last fifty years. In doing so, we were treated to a great selection of music items from such as “Guys And Dolls”, “Wizard Of Oz”, “Oliver!”, and “Oklahoma!” – which were all well staged and performed by an enthusiastic, well drilled, company. There were also musical items highlighting the famous solos that were sung by the Society’s past leading men and women evoking many memories of shows no longer performed on the Amateur Stage. But the Society’s “future” was not forgotten and the company’s young boys and girls (and there were loads of them!) found themselves taking to the stage to proudly show off their stage talents in “Shop Of Horrors”, “Suessical”, and “Forbidden Planet” – all performed with a great youthful zest. Then there was a look back at “yesteryear” when a founder member, youth representative, and invited guests all took to the stage in song, and amusing anecdote, to recall many moments of the society’s past and present. It was definitely a musical evening of nostalgia leading to a great Finale ending with the entire company combining to sing a powerful “When You walk Through A Storm”. It was a great night, and all that is left to say is – “Happy Birthday, Thomson-Leng!”
